Forensic psychiatry can help us understand the causes and best treatments for mentally disordered offenders inside and outside of the prison system What are the links between mental illness and violence? Do mental health disorders affect the risk of prisoners re-offending? Are rates of death and suicide higher in offenders with mental health issues higher than other offenders? Professor Seena Fazel describes how they seek to answer these questions through their research in forensic psychiatry, as well as how understanding these links and challenges that might help to better predict and treat mental health disorders in offenders to prevent violent outcomes.
